June 7: Machu Picchu, second day; Aguas Calientes; & Cuzco

Bev & I visited the site for a second day with Freddy as our guide.  More tributes to Bingham: He was not the true Indiana Jones but, then again, nobody else was either.

Ascending the long series of stairs up to the Caretaker's Hut.

Perhaps the most famous view of the site, from the area near the hut.

A few telephoto views from the overview by the hut: the high point in the Royal Sector.

The Sacred Plaza and the high point.

The Temple of the Sun, with the rounded wall in the center.

The Temple of the Condor near the south end of the Common District.

The northern end of the Central Plaza.

The Sun Gate via telephoto.  Rather than hiking up there, we chose to spent more time at the site.

Looking west toward some peaks of the high Andes.

The Funerary Rock.

Putucusi from the hut.

A holy city indeed.

Approaching the Main Gate.

The Temple of the Sun.

The Quarry.

Another visit to marvel at the Sacred Plaza and the Temple of the Three Windows.

The Principal Temple.

The House of the High Priest, with the Caretaker's Hut in the middle distance.

Bev and Freddy on the Central Plaza.

Llama and Temple of the Three Windows from the plaza.

The Temple of the Condor.

View of The Temple of the Sun from the plaza.

The Main Fountain, with water still flowing.

In The Grannery.

One of many statues we encountered honoring the Inca emperors, often including the three sacred animals: condor, puma, and serpent.

In the Plaza Principal of Aguas Calientes

Moonrise on the trip back to Cusco.
