June 16-17: ferry to Balta, flight back to Quito, tour of more sites in city, farewell dinner

Then we returned to Quito, and here we are with a magnolia tree in Achiote, a restaurant where we sampled several types of traditional Ecuadorian dishes.

The next morning began with a visit to a large market.

A shrine to the Christ child in the market.

Then onward to a must-see for visitors to Quito, the Inti Nam ("Path of the Sun") Museum, located exactly on the Equator.

I actually succeeded in balancing an egg on its end on my second try.  Here are Margie and Bev giving it a shot.

Next we visited a lovely old hacienda housing the Santana Brewing Company.  Yes, the microbrewery craze has even reached Quito, and the process is also coming full circle because they plan to begin marketing their products in the USA.

On our last evening in the capital we visited the Mindalae Museum, where we also had our farewell dinner.

Finally, it was on to the airport for the midnight flight to Atlanta, and from there back to Minneapolis by mid-morning.
